Spilt Leather Is Not Suitable For Making Piping/Binding

Split leather: This is the reticular layer (the part below the grain) remaining after the top layer of leather has been peeled off. Its fiber structure is relatively loose, lacking the support of a tightly packed grain layer.

While piping and binding require thin-skiving and smoothing the leather. Because split leather is inherently loose, skive it thin will significantly reduce its strength. When folded, the edges are prone to cracking and breaking, failing to form a crisp crease, and its durability is also to be shortened.

Therefore, for high-end leather bags requiring piping or binding, it is recommended to use top-grain leather.
